Another first

The other day we explored an awesome park near our place with a mommy-friend and her little one.

Not only did it give me a case of the Spring Fever that's going around, but it made me so excited for being outdoors with Teddy. So much to show him, so much for him to show me, so much for us to see and do and learn. First up? Swinging!

Rainy day

Rainy afternoons are made for discovering new toys. Most recently? Plastic measuring cups and wooden spoons.

P.S. I discovered the manual focus on my camera so I've been a bit picture-happy.

Wishes

When I was pregnant, I may have blown a lash or two off my finger while wishing for such frivolous things as long eyelashes like your Daddy's.

I also wished for world peace.

One out of two ain't bad.

There's things you need to hear

Pain throws your heart to the ground

Love turns the whole thing around

No it won't all go the way it should

But I know the heart of life is good.

I know it's good.

Dear Teddy

Happy 5 month birthday, little man! I feel like this has been a big month for you. There have been lots of changes and new things happening in your world. Does it blow your mind? It must, because it blows mine everyday!

One big thing that has happened? You are officially a sitting-up baby! You get stronger every day and are even reaching for toys with both hands (and flinging them around your head like crazy). That whole "tripoding" thing all the other babies are doing? You're apparently too cool for that and just went straight to sitting upright. And you know it, too; usually when you first sit up you flash us this big grin that is all "Oh yea, I'm sitting up. I'm so awesome!" (And you are, little one, you are.)

Your ability to sit up has led us to some other fun things: bathtubs and "solid" food. Oh the splashing! Oh the messes! Oh the dried carrots between your fingers!

Other things in our world are pretty similar to your 4 month birthday: We're still trying to buy a house. I'm still trying to find my way as your mom. You still make us smile every. single. day. And I think I've finally hit that point that lots of other parents talk about - "can you even remember life before/without him?" they ask.

Each day I spend with you, the memory of pre-Teddy life becomes more faint, more diffuse in my mind. It's a slowly fading horizon. I had a good life before I had you - I saw lots of places and met lots of people and learned lots of things. But I am humbled by the realization that, had I never I had you, I would never have known the heights of joy, the expanses of soul-tugging questions, or the depth of Love I have come to know.

So while you are sitting there discovering the world from a new vantage point, so too am I. You will be the greatest teacher of my life.

Love,
Mom
